Aeson Therapeutics Inc.
Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) may have therapeutic uses against cardiovascular disease, immune disorders, cancer and other diseases, but the hormone is a precursor of androgens and estrogens and can cause undesirable side effects.
Research Corporation Technologies formed Aeson Therapeutics to develop fluasterone, a synthetic steroid that may be more effective than DHEA without the adverse side effects. Fluasterone development targets include treatment of lipid disorders, inflammatory diseases and as a cancer chemoprevention agent.
RCT and other investors provided funding for Aeson's initial development. Hollis-Eden Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:HEPH) in San Diego acquired Aeson in May 2006.
