Excessive levels of C5a may be associated with autoimmune and chronic inflammatory disorders, and inhibiting receptor activation may have therapeutic potential for such diseases as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, reperfusion injury and acute respiratory distress syndrome.
