mRNA Transport Enhancer

The mRNA enhancer (RTE) is a 21 nt sequence from the 3'-untranslated region of myelin basic protein (MBP). This cis-acting sequence is necessary and sufficient for intracellular transport and localization of MBP mRNA from the cell body to the distal processes and myelin membranes of oligodendrocytes. The structure and function of the sequence and data suggest it has activity in a variety of cells and may be particularly useful in gene therapy and protein expression systems.

The technology is protected by U.S. Patent No. 6,225,082.
